Home Where
About me,
born at 5 minutes before midnight within a cold and ugly november night as the oldest child of my parents, I'm grown up with a lot of highs and lows in an all over all lucky childhood. In an age of 2 years and 2 month I got company within my second next brother and together we were able to bring the one or other ... lets say ... interesting moment within my parents life. To make the picture complete I should mention here that I'm the oldest brother of five. Just there is a gap between this one and the other three and therefor I was already a teenager until they were born.
With an age of six I had to fight with the first two tragical losses of my life. One was my grandma which died in follow of an car accident - Imagine I was used to run to her with every problem which occured within my young life. The second loss was my best friend out of this time ... our dachshund called Axel. He was my first "best friend" and whichever you have seem of us, you could be sure the other one would not be far away. Later on my mum told me that he right from the first second had decided to see it as his task to take care about me. From then on he has spent day for day hours to protect my buggy and no one - really no one - was allowed to come closer to me.
Shortly behind that I made the mistake to believe my parents, that it might be wise to go to school. I recognised immediately that this was the wrong decission, but all world insisted me to go there again day by day. To be honest I had no real problems at school and with my ability to learn very quick, also it it was just for a specific date or a specific exam, I was able to always get good school reports.
After 10 years at school - our german middle grade - I fed up with school and decided to go for an industrial education. Because I wanted to earn my own money to be able to solve the one or other wish of me.
With the choice between working at a bank and to start an education as biologically laboratory assistant, I decided myself for the the second choice and started an education in a very large chemical company. One year later I had to end it because if becoming allerically against nearly all animals I had to work with (Imagine, I'm grown up with a dog). Confronted with this problem I decided to switch to an education as a physically laboratory assistant with the loss of one year, which was a luck at the end, because I recognised that I loved this stuff more.
At this time I got the knowledge about the possibility to make the highest German school grade besides and therefor I ended up with both final exam after 3,5 years.
Directly after this education I got a job at the same company and had a short glance as a laboratory assistant. Right when I had settled myself there I got my official request to join the German military. After a short dicussion within I successfully was able to make clear that I would not like to drive a tank or dig any bigger whole somewhere out in nature, I was able to spent my 15 obligate month at the German Luftwaffe (Air Force). When looking back I' able to say, that this "experience" was ok - just that I could live without it ...
Coming back to work and taking over the responcibility for the first arrived IBM XT (diskless with 512KBMemory) was nearly one thing. At this point I had no voice, because I was the youngest and all pointed on me. Later on I recognised that I had found my determination and puters are still the stuff I earn my money with until today. Today I'm often forced to smile while thinking back to these days when I hardly tried to handle an Oracle Database Version 4 on my then second system (an IBM AT02 10MB hardisk and 640KB with 384KB extended memory) without real knowledge about the OS ... did I wrote OS?! ... I was refering to this IBM DOS 2.0 which was brand new at this time ... ROFL
OH :-| Now I have written that much stuff - without to mention the absolute highlight of my life. It happend on Aug. 24th 1990 when I married my wife Kerstin, which had already become my girlfriend during my education to a laboratory assistant which we both made together. Today she is still a laboratory hero handling with all that dangerous and toxic loboratory things, while I'm being allowed to play with all these interesting stuff coded by MS, Oracle and so on ...
